RETIREMENT PENSION  - SUMMARY OF COMPONENTS.
Weekly rates from April 2000.

Basic Pension On own or late husband’s insurance Up to £67.50 maximum, depending on number of qualifying years. 
Married Woman  On husband’s insurance Up to £40.40
Increase for a dependant wife Under age 60 Up to £40.40
Typical rate for a married couple   £107.90
Graduated Retirement Benefit 1 unit (8.77p) For every £7.50 paid (men); £9.00 (women)

Maximum possible men (86 units) £7.54 women (72 units) £6.31

 

Additional Pension SERPS – not contracted out  Earnings related
Extra Pension (increments) For putting off claiming your pension 7.5% a year – maximum 5 years. 
Age Addition Payable at age 80 £0.25
Annual Christmas Bonus Paid in December £10.00
Annual Winter Fuel Payment £150 per household Anyone over 60 is now eligible.

CAN'T MANAGE?
Claim Income Support from DSS (savings limit £8,000*) and/or Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit from your Town Hall or Civic Centre (savings limit £16,000)   If unemployed claim Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance at the Jobcentre (savings limit £8,000).

*£12,000 from April 2001
