RETIREMENT PENSION  - SUMMARY OF COMPONENTS.
Weekly rates from April 2002.

FROM APRIL 2002 THE BENEFITS AGENCY IS BEING REPLACED BY  THE PENSION SERVICE.

Basic Pension On own or late husband’s insurance Up to £75.50 maximum, depending on number of qualifying years. 
Married Woman  On husband’s insurance Up to £45.20
Increase for a dependant wife Under age 60 Up to £45.20
Typical rate for a married couple   £120.70
Graduated Retirement Benefit

Based on N.I. contributions paid between April 1961 and April 1975

1 unit (9.21p) For every £7.50 paid (men); £9.00 (women)

Maximum possible men (86 units) £7.79 women (72 units) £6.52

Inheritance of SERPS

 

SERPS – not contracted out  ( from 1978 to 2002) - only available to employees.

From 6 April 2002 SERPS will be reformed to provide more additional state pension for low and moderate earners, certain carers and people with long-terms illness or disability.

If your husband of wife is due to reach state pension age on or after 6 October 2010, you will receive up to 50% of their SERPS when they die.

If your husband or wife is due to reach state pension age after 5 October 2002 but before 6 October 2010, when they die you will receive a maximum of between 90% and 60% of their SERPS. Exact amount depends on when they reach state pension age.

If your husband or wife is due to reach state retirement pension age before 6 October 2002, you will receive up to 100% of their SERPS when they die

If you are already a widow or widower you can get up to 100% of your late husband's or wife's Additional Pension

Extra Pension (increments) For putting off claiming your pension 7.5% a year – maximum 5 years. 
Age Addition Payable at age 80 £0.25
Annual Christmas Bonus Paid in December £10.00
Annual Winter Fuel Payment £200 per household Anyone over 60 is now eligible.
