JOBSEEKER'S ALLOWANCE - JSA

HOW AND WHEN SHOULD I CLAIM?
If you wish to claim, contact your local Jobcentre or Jobcentre Plus on the first working day after you leave work, even if you receive pay in lieu of notice.  You can find the address in the phone book under "Employment Service".   You will be given an appointment for an interview.   Take with you your P45 (tax form) from your employer. This will show your National Insurance Number, eg AB 12 34 56 D.
CONDITIONS TO QUALIFY
You must be capable of, available for and actively seeking work.
You will be given a claim pack to complete asking various questions, e.g.
  • What SORT OF JOB are you looking for?
  • What OTHER jobs would you consider?
  • WHERE are you prepared to work (which towns)?
  • WHEN can you start work?
  • What HOURS are you prepared to work?
  • What is the LOWEST wage you are prepared to work for?
  • What have you ALREADY DONE to get yourself another job?
  • What do you PLAN TO DO to get another job?
  • How did you come to lose your LAST job?
  • Will you get an OCCUPATIONAL or PERSONAL PENSION?
