PENSION CREDITS

This new entitlement replaces the Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG)  with effect from 6 October 2003. Anyone who is currently in receipt of MIG will automatically be switched to Pension Credits. It applies to people aged 60 or over.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE -  SINGLE PENSIONERS  WHOSE TOTAL INCOME IS LESS THAN £102.10  per week.

IF YOU HAVE A PARTNER  TOTAL INCOME OF £155.80 OR LESS per week.

If you are over 65 there is also a SAVINGS CREDIT element to this entitlement.  Savings up to £6000 are ignored, above this amount the calculation is £1 per week income for each £500  or part  of £500 you have in savings - which increases the figures to

SINGLE PENSIONERS WHOSE TOTAL INCOME IS LESS THAN £139.10 per week

IF YOU HAVE A PARTNER TOTAL INCOME OF £203.80 OR LESS per week.

(The definition of partner is husband or wife, or a person you live with as if you are married to them).

ALL CURRENT PENSIONERS WILL BE CONTACTED BY JUNE 2004  AND GIVEN INFORMATION ABOUT THIS NEW ENTITLEMENT. YOU HAVE UNTIL OCTOBER 2004 TO APPLY ( (IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE BACK PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE)
