AN IDEAL RETIREMENT SEMINAR?

In our opinion it is vital that the following sessions be included in any preparation for retirement course. We also list against these sessions the material that should be covered under the relevant subjects. It is also our belief that all courses should give participants every opportunity to discuss their concerns for the future, and each presenter allocates adequate time for questions.

THE OPENING SESSION - include discussion with participants on their hopes and aims for their new lifestyle. Giving appropriate advice/guidance on subjects raised by audience - usually covers family, accommodation, interests, education and learning, voluntary or paid work and areas relating to adapting to a new lifestyle.
FINANCE – Social Security benefits, Taxation, Wills, Investment/Savings and personal budgets. Individual advice on some of these subjects may not be possible but alternative sources of help should be covered.
HEALTH – A suitably qualified medical practitioner advises on how to maintain good health in retirement. Usually covers information on necessary health check-ups, the advantages of leisure time to promote a healthier lifestyle and tips for holidays abroad etc. Very important that participants are given the opportunity to raise issues and discuss their concerns.
At Silverpot we are currently working on producing an inter-active web based course, which will contain the above elements. It is hoped this will be available in the autumn.
