This is an inflammatory disease affecting small joints, most often
fingers. wrists and toes. Onset is usually in middle age and women are
mainly affected.
Rheumatoid Arthritis affects each personal differently and no two of
us are alike: for this reason it is best to be in the care of a
specialist (rheumatologist) when X-rays and blood tests can indicate the
best form of treatment .
Many different treatments are used and cures are common. Fortunately
the disease does not progress indefinitely: it eventually ‘ burns
itself out ‘ but that may take 20 years or more.
The cause is unknown but auto-immunity is part of the problem.
